GAV represents a huge leap forward in the design of load bearing vests for Australian policing. Unlike other vests, which are based on outdated military designs, the GAV has been completely designed from conception using extensive computer modelling of the human form. So advanced is it that it won the 2006 Australian Design Award for Materials and Textile Innovation. It is the only moulded load bearing system in the world. GAV has an International Patent application: Number PCT/AU2006/001009.
GAV was initially developed for Australian policing because of OH&S issues arising from the use of current accoutrement belts. Issues such as neck pain, spinal problems, migraines, sore feet and even insomnia. The biggest complaint and lost time injuries however arise from back problems. Police are having to carry up to 9kg's on their hips due to all of the accoutrements now required to be carried, and are having to patrol, chase and climb with this weight present at all times. Sitting in a patrol car for long periods of time with the current belt is also a factor leading to back pain.
GAV is ideally developed for jurisdictional specific applications, as all required accoutrements for the particular division are digitised and then virtually applied to the product. This optimises muscle memory placement, access, weight distribution and spacing.
All accoutrement housings are specifically moulded for a particular item, such as eliminating incorrect placement or excessive, non-mission critical items being secreted within GAV, adding unnecessary weight.
Specifically moulded housings eliminate accoutrement movement within GAV during a dynamic activity such as running.
GAV design and function principles that remain as foundation to the product:
• Wholly OH&S ethos (fit, retention, weight balance, comfort) • Addresses OH&S problems such as lower back injury, lost time injuries etc. • Extreme size range to fit both Male & Female builds • Specifically designed to address heat stress • Full protective options • Accoutrement specific pocketing and retention • Technology hub
